Although community transport isn't our main purpose we feel it is key to improving the lives of people in rural areas, stats show that car ownership is higher in rural areas but there are still some people who don't have access to a car and it is these people that we try to serve with our community transport operation.
Our ethos has always been focussed on making better use of public sector spend by integrating transport operations, there's always been a silo mentality which in our opinion needs to change if we are to improve rural transport without spending a furtune.
Over the past 6 years we have been delivering what we describe as a community centred transport project, this involves delivering extra work for schools as part of the mainstream transport contract as well as delivering services for the community when the vehicle is not required by the school, we engaged a consultant to evaluate the project and the final report can be downloaded by clicking here
The project is being expanded and interest has been showen in other council areas in the project.
If you click the menu item "21st Century Transport" you'll see what we are planning for the future.
